How Much Should I Charge for Website Development/Management?

As the topic says. I am extremely familiar with HTML. I use the latest design tools to aid in web development (Photoshop CS2, Dreamweaver 8, Flash 8, etc.) as well as I am strong in Flash animation/actionscript, extremely familiar with Dreamweaver and very familiar with Photoshop CS2. I will be in charge of designing the website as well as managing it for my cousin instead of designing the website and letting her do all the content changes and such. How much should I charge for working on the website and maintaining it?

Thank you.

For family, you do it for free and then that's one of your "demo" sites. In exchange, they write testimonials that you can use to get more customers.

For non-family, I charge $250.00 startup and then $35.00 a month after that.
Reply:I like Kacky's answer. On things you do for free, add a page on the end "About this site". That is a good place to put your name, offer your services, state your copyright, invite anyone with heartburn over using their copyrighted material to talk with you, mention the tools you use. Do your legal work and PR on the same page. Do it right and it will go down well with relatives and get you noticed.

As to fair fees, turn the situation around, pretend you want to hire someone to do this job and look on the web for web site designers. WOW. I see $2000 for a simple site. I see added costs for each link. Each photo. For the great ocean of customers that haven't a clue this business that is a fair price. $200 a page is not uncommon.
Reply:Business %26amp; family usually are hard to balance. If you want to get a baseline of what the normal business charges then go do some searches on-line and see what the going rates are. Being that you are family your cousin is going to expect a discount on that. Good luck.
Reply:Its family ... walk away. Business and family don't mix. Save yourself the grief, the changes to the tiniest of things and the always having to ask to be paid.

You would be rich, and you would never have to get off your ace again.
