Being a PC user trying to start a career in web design and development, is it necessary to learn to use a MAC?

no it depends on what software you plan on using. if you use a windows software based program then no. but if you plan on using a MAC software then yes but overall the answer is no.

No software use is most important!

In our company Dell is the standard mandated with Windows so all graphic art uses intel and windows platform. I'm sure the graphic artist may have a apple at home but they use Windows software, eg Paint, Adobe, etc..
Reply:All of the graphics jobs listen in my area all require a strong background in Mac OS X and Adobe products. It would be wise to get Mac experience. In my own opinion, it would be best to switch to Mac altogether. There's too many hassles in the PC world. Macs are easy, fast and secure. OS X is light years ahead of Windows.
Reply:It might help if you learned the basic UNIX that the entire INTERNET runs on: LINUX! Microsoft.com, hotmail.com, msn.com, the entire redmond campus, run on 45,000 Linux computers.

Google.com runs on Linux..

Most news services (Reuters News, and Reuters Financial, the NYSE, Wall Street) plus most major banks, run on Linux.

Yahoo runs on the other Unix clone, BSD ( Mac OS X is DarwinBSD).

The web development choice is NVU. NVU comes free in http://pclinuxos.com LiveCDrom. FREE!

NVU can work in the WIN32 'virus magnet' environment, but, many question that modus, since the servers are all Linux or BSD versions of Unix, virus proof!
