Your webdeveloper should have provided you an interface (integrated in your website, probably with an admin account) to access/edit the data base that holds your website contents... and all that in a very user friendly way.

So the answer is yes, you should be able to do this with no trouble and no special skills. I hope your webdeveloper is an open person to help you in case you are not sure what to ask form him. If not, look for real professionals, that will justify your each penny.
Reply:That depends on the program your developer used. First you'll need a copy of the pages he created in order to update them. And a copy of the program, Dreamweaver, FrontPage, etc. Now that your site is set up, what will you be changing? If it's simple text, no problem, just copy/paste or re-type what you want. If you're replacing pictures, again a copy/paste plus re-size of the pic to fit the page. If you're getting into HTML, sales using forms, etc., webmaster school would be recommended.
Reply:A lot of what you are asking depends on what languages/technologies were used in the development of the site.

Is it a dynamic site that will update based on database or date parameters? Was it done in HTML, the .NET languages, ColdFusion, PHP, or another language? Is it Flash based?

Your best bet, in my opinion, is to discuss these things with your web developer. Let them know this is something you would like to handle. The cost may rise a bit, but the developer should have the skills available to provide you with the tools or knowledge you need. They can do anything from designing a web-based interface for you to update the content, train you on how to update it, and/or heavily document and comment the code making it much easier for you to do yourself.

Best of luck.
