I am looking to escape the grasp of microsoft C# / ASP .net programming. I want to use the Ubunto operating system.

QUESTION: Is there an Integrated Development Environment IDE that is available for Ubuntu. ie. To create desktop .exe's and database driven websites.

Thanks for your answers and any pointers.

One of the best software development platforms on Linux is Eclipse. It's a free download and has libraries to support C++ and Java for desktop applications. There are even plug-ins for HTML, JavaScript, PHP and Ajax for dynamic web development. You can find plenty of books on Amazon - search for "Eclipse IDE"
Reply:All of Linux is based on C and derivatives, although many languages are included. For web use they have the Apache server, php and mysql.
